Yeah its really crazy..
Yes, aber dabei mine is not a 4 door but it could still be doable to such a car, for sure and for the sake of it, still function as a good clubsport/daily driver. Im taking this project to a Team schirmer level kind a car.. that means, everything will be done to it so its basically a racecar. I'm not sure if it possible to still make it road legal, but i have a tüv friendly friend who can help me out so i still can enjoy the car on the road for a few sundays..

Well as you say, the power difference is the biggest one, but the chassis flex from the convertible, i am convinced that will be a huge deal in both slow and faster corners. So in my opinion its just not possible to make the convertible as fast on ex NOS than the e46.. i mean i havent seen any convertible doing close to 7 min BTG.. but i for sure have seen a few e46 cars.. okay, maybe thats the m3's now that i think of it.....

Where in Germany are you from?

Thank you!
I can allready give you a hint about the driving, because i was testing a same spec car as mine.

Have you seen "The_Project_One" on instagram, from France? That's my mates and i testdrove his car this summer on the roads outside Kelberg. That was driving mega..
Full SPL parts in the suspension, KW comp 3a, welded cage and AP racing 368mm kit, it drove really really good.
Very stable at higher speeds, even with an aggressive alignment. Understeer was totally gone and the mechanical grip of the whole car is very different to a normal 1 series.

My car setup by now is:
SPL parts in the underbody, AP racing 378mm kit with cp9668, KW cs 2way with 50% stiffer spring rates,
things to come are the welded cage, and paint inside of the interior, and then im sure im at a point where its finished and can start being used again. :25_money_mouth:

Sorry for taking that much time!

Exactly what I meant, u got the 2 door version, but still it could be done to a 4 door "saloon" and be much smaller than a M3/4 etc. (like a decent town car then :4_joy::4_joy::4_joy:).
Na, I am dead serious, I live and am from Munich, it is not like Berlin or London, but still, a big car is here a pain in the as.

Okay, I really thought the 1 series convertible was not that bad as being quite compact, but yeah, you are propably right. Nevertheless I am quite curious how it is going to turn out, as the difference power wise between an E46 330i (not an M3) and a well done 135i is quite substantial.

I really need to look out for when u are at the ring, just to take a real look at the car. My times will be far from close to yours, if u plan on 7 minutes. :8_laughing::22_stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Btw. I am going to be curious how you compare the KW CS 2way with the KW Comp 3a? I hear of a lot of people here that they reach (or feel like it) the limits of the KW V3 or ST XTA...

No worries :1310_thumbsup_tone1:
Ah yes, you are definately right about that, it would function very well, if someone choosed to do a clubsport build with the widebody. But the thing is, the car is wider than my 5 series F11 now, lol, so for very narrow places it could be a small headache to park it.. hehe..

Sure the convertible arent a bad car, please dont think, that i think it is :4_joy:  I just think it won't be just as capable as the coupe of the e46..
Yes do that, and feel free to come over and say hi and introduce yourself, ive met a few people from here, and all are very cool and friendly..

So i dont plan on 7 minutes laps, lol.. i just started driving NOS in 2020, ive done around 30 laps since then, and my best is 8.30 by now.

But next season is the year for me, i plan to come every 4-6 weeks over the spring/summer period and i have a small goal to reach a clean sub 8 lap. Im not trying to achieve the fastest lap times when im there, especially not when i bring the "new car" because the room for error at  a sub 7.50 lap is very marginal.. ive been passenger in a few of my mates  m140's where we drove sub 7.45, and i'm not skilled enough to drive at these speeds, i have a lot to learn, so i can achieve a sub 8, i guess i will be very satisfied :16_relieved:
But having the material that can do a 7 min lap does make it easier to achieve the sub 8 lap. Just look at the common 991 guys, they are "all fast" because the car is so easy to drive.

The biggest difference of the CS 2 way vs the comp 3a, is compliance. The comp 3a, is very very nice, its just smooth over holes and bumps in the road, where the CS is more stiff. The feedback from the comp 3a is also better, but its not uncomfortable, even at low speeds it very very good. My CS at low speed sucks, its very bouncy below 50km/h, and i'm not sure how it will drive now that the spring rates have been changed to 50% stiffer.. That seems to be a common thing to do, so i look forward to try it out before settling for a competition suspension. :35_thinking:

no not all 991/992 or whatever guys are fast. The goal for everyone should be having fun with your personal limits. not more not less. Even if you have a 25cm penis doenst make you automatically a pornstar either. Enjoy the car when its ready and i cant wait to see it next year on nordschleife ! :3_grin:

Like i wrote "all fast" :22_stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
The goal is ofcourse to have fun yes, but it is also fun to compare your laptimes between your friends and push each others limits to achieve more and learn more, to me that is fun, but it is also funny to just lap in a train and do a 9min lap enjoying the view of the ring and enjoying driving with your friends :16_relieved: Come an say Hi if you see the me and the car :14_relaxed:

:4_joy: hahaha, yeah, true, have not thought about the width actually. In our company underground parking I think u would have trouble to get in, the entrance is so narrow I do not envy our bosses with their Audi A6 oder BMW 5 series...

Naah, I do not think you think that :4_joy: (what a sentence), I am rather just curious about it. And yeah, will be happy to meet and see you!
I am pretty slow, too, I did like something between 50-100 laps now (with 4 different cars though), my fastest lap was something like 8:35 with the E46 330i limo (or was it the Peugeot 308 II GTI I had, not sure, but gonna beat it with the 330i anyways).

I think my driven line is pretty good now, I just lack the courage to squeeze out these 10-30 km/h more I need. But I enjoy it that way, because I still have a bit of a safety margin there. as you already said at the limit you have no margin for error. If you drive over oil or some accident remnants that kill a tire (had oil and a big slice in one of my tires on other tracks, both turned out to be harmless though). And I have not driven ludicrous much on tracks like others here!

Thanks for the comparison! Than I should have gone for the competition when I had a chance to get one cheap (quite some time ago!). But I think I will still be able to handle the Clubsport as I had it before, too. So far I am pretty happy with the ST XTA in my 330i.

Oh man, sry for my late reply, have had an hectic week regarding work and so on, so now its finally weekend :16_relieved:

Well it seems that we are having a similar pace on the NOS, it seems though, that you are faster than me in the corners, because i have driven cars with quite above 350 hp and i can compensate a little on the faster sections, lol :3_grin: I'm actually going to Nordschleife on Saturday the 15th October, but i will stay there for half a day meet up with some friends and then continue my trip to Breizh Motorsport In France so i finally can pick up my car from there.
Will then unfortunately be going straight home with it = no testdrive on the Ring, because the setup of the car is totally out of measurements and half of the suspension are changed out with stiffer springs. I didnt have time to do it all before sending the car off to France i summers, lol :34_rolling_eyes:

So i will do some work to the car while i have it at home, and start saving up money for the cage builder. Still need to book the car in some where, but i will start thinking and working on that, when its home.

The ST XTA is very good value for money, but when you want next level performance a true competition suspension are all the money worth it. yeah im probably not fast enough to be mandatory with all the money i sink into my car, but i like to have a "perfect track car" to start my track driving experience with. For me its a big drem come true, that i can afford to build a car spec like this.

All good! I was screwing on my car whole friday and saturday after work and a bit of daily businesses...

Ah well, I will not come up there so soon, just found out on the weekend that some of the screws I ordered are the wrong ones and some other parts need to be replaced before I can continue. Just sucks to take soo much time always...

Aaah, that sounds too bad that you can't even test drive a bit. But I am sure you will be happy to have it back. :1_grinning: You are going there with a trailer, right?

The ST XTA is kind a the good do it all thing, money wise fairly cheap (if you want a KW/ST Suspension) and very capable. But of course it is a level underneath the Clubsport or Competition, even though I keep hearing the Clubsport is not as good as its name, at least in partial daily use. The competition is meant to do it a lot better overall.

I am rather afraid building such an expensive car, because I feel to immature and if I would crash it I would regret it for the rest of my life.

Aaah, seems like an few good days then! I always enjoy working on my car.. Well at least working on the track car, not so much on the daily driver, lol..

What a bummer, we'll maybe meet next time when we are arround.. And to fair, i think i already have a tight schedule, I will from the morning be in Kassel at 55parts, to pick up my AP brakekit, then i will continue to Nürburg, see some friends of mine i have also invited my girlfriend out to drive gokart up in ringwerk/ringkarts and after that, we might eat some lunch and then i will probably take some passanger laps with me friends and when the day is almost over, i will continue driving south to France.. So i think that is a day, i will be very tired.. :34_rolling_eyes:

Yeeah it is really a bummer not to just finish the season with the new build, but at least i can do some road testing in france though :22_stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: Yes, my trailer is sitting down at there place, so i'm fortunate to not be driving down there with an empty one.

Yeah ive tried my buddy's m135i, he recently installed st xta with stiffer springs, and his car drives very nice, with that damper. but yes, you can feel its a bit softer dampening wise, but that can also be due to his setup of the dampers.

I can clearly understand your point of view, and to be fair, i am also a bit cautious with the car in the future.. but i guess its possible to still do good laps times, even without pushing 8/10, in the end, i think it all comes down to have a lot of experience on NOS to be fast and safe there.

Its a bit of a dream for me, to come under 8 min btg, but its not a dream for me, to be crowned the pinnapple king when crashing chassing that "ultimately goal":3_grin::3_grin:

I wish it were a good few days, it was rather frustrating even though we still made progress, but just a lot slower than expected. I never did a lot of suspension works in the past, always got it fitted, and now doing it myself even though with some good help we were just stunned how different the E92 is in comparison to the E46 were it was kind of a day or two work. I got to admit though it is stupid to do it just a week before getting the lifting platform. But I need the space etc. to get the platform easily build in and so I need to get it done asap.

Sure, we will find some time to meet and greet and get some good rounds done together. :22_stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: And yeah, with your tight schedule it is probably a lot easier not to burden yourself with another person keen on chit-chatting with you. Go-karting sounds also awesome!

Hmm, I heard the dampers of the ST XTA are not that different (or not different at all) to KW V3 or to the Clubsport, so yeah, it could be that they work very well. Especially if the car is emptied out the dampers have less to dampen and work a bit better in the Clubsport direction, I have the same feeling in my E46 330i, it feels like the dampers are still quite comfortable, but also not soft at all. Due to the 200kg less as it is really emptied even without the power steering, radio and AC. Like 0% daily capable!

With that car you should be able to do ludicrous good rounds while still having tons of safety margins. And I think you should be able to do a round closer to 7 mins than 8 min with that beast, but of course first you need to be able to handle it well and be self confident enough. :35_thinking::3_grin:

Car is on the outside 90% finished. I'm in France right now for seeing the car, and bringing it home.

Next step is a cage, interior painting and wire cutting.

@Gany i will reply to you when i get back home sometime next week :-)
