Alos I'll tell you how it is, the G series is significantly faster than an F series, even if the cars are heavier.
BUT the most important thing in cars to make you fast is the tires.
If you throw a CupR on a car like that, it's simply a different house number.... There are some who, for example, with F series cars and a Direzza in 18 inches, never drove under 7:04 on the Nordschleife... and then they have one Put CupR on it and were straight over 10!!! Seconds faster... I see the biggest advantage in the fact that the G series can run with 19 inches and can therefore drive the CUPR...

Sulfurd already drove 6:55 with Schirmer's M4 and that was only possible thanks to Cup R...

Cristian Vidal did 6.55 in a full interior F80 600ps but with Hoosier Dot E slicks on 18".. Both the CupR and the Hoosier are real cheater tires :8_laughing: So you are completely right, the tires do the biggest difference on an already capable car!

  2. Super cool project! Can't wait to see the result!
How far do you plan to go with the project?
Would love to see a very weight optimized G87..
I myself have removed nearly 200kgs from my 1series. Curb weight with half a tank is now around 1365kgs..
Would it be possible to remove 250kgs on the g87? Maybe even 300 kg if you have very deep pockets and desire to do so?
Would be very cool to see a G87 sub 1500kg with half a tank. I think it would be able for a sub 6.53 lap on the ring with a little more power than stock.

  3. I will just use the 50/50 mixture.. I dont really have issues with temperatures.. But Just wanted to know if the Motul was more than just a placebo or could be used standalone. But after Phil's experiences, i'm just gonna pour in the normal coolant mixture as ive always used :12_slight_smile:

Its crazy how fast things can go wrong. The waterpump was changed though, in the winter for the 2023 season. So everything there is all "new".. But having the cooling system to fail seems to be very common on the BMW's.. especially the ones with eletric driven coolant pump..

Yes, i'm fully with you in that regard..  We can't ensure 100% that things won't have a bad outcome for others if shit happens on our own cars, but atleast we can try to make our cars + components as reliable and safe as possible.
Which has been my mantra for the whole car throughout the years.. But some things you just can't be ready for.. Fx a broken coolant pump, oilsump being punched a hole into or what elsen in that regard.. Broken engine etc.. I think most of us regular track day folks, have this mindset..

  5. Just realised the G11 im speaking about is indeed G48.. The G11 spec is VAG spec, but its is something that my local BMW dealer also call their OEM coolant.. So sorry for the confusion, it is indeed G48 i must search and buy for my car.

So what is the main difference between G48 and G11? Is G11 just a new spec of coolant for BMW?
I tried googling this, but have not been lucky to scource the right information between them..

Makes fully sense! And i'm going to use demineralised water anyway, so corrosion wont be an issue either.
The only thing that worries me a bit, if i should have another leak of coolant.. Would love to have some that wasnt as slippery/oily... But i guess, its a game between safety for other cars and safety for the components on our cars.
Normally im on the top of my game looking my car through before every trackday.. But shit can happen, and it did last time I was around the track, luckily it was so minor, that the coolant was drying up in the engine bay before it could come out.. Had to top up around 2 litres for 800kms trackdriving and around 200km road driving, so the useage was very minor.

Personally I'd go with option 1.

I ran 25% G48 and 5% Mocool a few years back and I'm pretty sure my water pump died prematurely because of the low concentration of antifreeze. Now I'm running the recommended 50/50 mix of G48 and water and didn't see any difference in temperature on track.

Mocool might work but for me it didn't make any difference.

That's what i was a bit worried about too with 5% dilution in 95% water..
Ive always driven with 50/50 mix of coolant and coolant temps are not really an issue. But as I just saw that there was some additive that might would be better for lubrication and overall performance of the cooling system i was starting to think about using it.. But looking through Motuls Technical datasheet, doesnt really tell if its just a "placebo" product..
I will continue using the G11 coolant in the 50/50 mix..

Thanks for sharing your experience with it. :100_pray:

I also like DO88 very much.
My water heat exchanger for intercooling and my engine oil cooler are also from DO88.
The coolers are made in a very good quality.

Yes, i had no issues with them other than this time around.. But they said it at happened a few times, and they wanted to bring mea product worth their name.. So i can't fault them.. I was considering going back to OEM.. But reached out,and asked if they had issues before and then they immediately met me in eye sight, prompted me a generous discount and shipped the cooler the same day! So service and products is really nothing that can be said anything bad about..

  10. Had a small leak in the coolant system, sprying onto my chargepipe.. Found the culprit only when the engine was cold.. Pressurised the system when HOT, and after 20min pressure test 0.2 bar pressure drop.. This indicated that it was only the pressure buildup releasing as the coolant went down in temperature.. Well after the radiator was fully cooled down, i tried pressure testing and then this showed up.
New cooler allready on its way and Huge discount from the supplier.. Absolutely phenomenal..  Radiator was bought in 2021 and done thousands of kilometres mostly on track. Customer service from Do88 is A++.. They didnt need to give me a discount but they did, without me asking. Great service!

  11. I'm wondering what would bethe best option cooling wise?

Option 1 : Run G11 coolant mixed 50/50 with water.
Option 2: Run Motul Mocool mixed only with water 5% Mocool with 95% water.
Option 3: Run G11 Coolant mixed 50/50 with water, but with suitable 5% Mocool too?

Could the Mocool works as a stand alone, without G11 coolant? Car will never be driven in below freezing temps anyway.. But would maybe be started up, in the mornings when you have maybe +5 degrees... Or had overnight temps just around 0degrees.. Water doesnt really freeze in 0 degrees in pressurized system if i remember correct.

I hate bikes together Cars on the Track ! It is so dangerous and most of the bikes dont care on the Cars !!

I fully agree.. And many of them drive like they have taken their last breath.. But i try to be carefull around all of them.. But you never know which ego you meet on a bike..Some are wild men, some actually do play it safe... I'd prefered open stint for motorcycles only and then cars only.. Would be better for everyone..

TBH the weekend around easter is worse than others. But yeah, too many stupid show offs up there. Social media taking it's toll, again :40_rage:

Yes, i fully agree! But that's unfortunately also one of the few weekends where the GP track is open too.. And for testing, its really beneficial to be able to go between the 2 tracks.. But Normally it is quiet from 8-9 am until 11.. so normally i can get in a few good laps in that time, and then i just do some chilled laps afterwards.. If there is to much karnage, then i park the car and go review some of the footage..
And yes, the likes of social media is the culprit behind this behavior.. Some drives their fans cars around the track, others film around the track for "excitement and mostly profit".. They are, unfortunately, in my eyes, the reason of the Wörthersee culture being more and more implemented into our beloved track..
I can say SPA, is much more relaxed compared.. But, it is not Nürburgring.. So hopefully, there will be some kind of a movement against the "boy racer" culture in the future.. :12_slight_smile:

Cars and Bikes @ the same time on GP course?!:50_open_mouth:

Yep! I nearly took out a fellow Danish guy, who was on his bike right in the apex at the end of the main straight.. They let out the Bikers 30+ seconds before cars get to drive, but 2-3 laps in, you' ve caught up to the bikers.. And then its a matter of being carefull, you never know what they do.. That's a lie.. On the straight they drive full throttle between cars left and right, and after that, the interesting part continues, avoid hitting them right in the apex.. :34_rolling_eyes:

To many "Wörthersee cars" around lol.. Every evening when i drove from Kelberg to Nürburg and went down the Boulevard, all the street tuners where standing and waiting for someone do some stupid things..  I mean, the whole parking lot opposite of Nürburgring sign, was full of those kind.. I can't stand that culture.. Im too old i guess.. :35_thinking:

I didn't track temps yet as it wasn't that warm during the weekend. i started with 2.2 bars after 2 laps i reduced from 2.6 to 2.0 in the morning i had 1.6 as usual so quite similar to the FZ201 when it gets warmer i will check for temps. overall the wear all around looks decent

No, it was pretty cold.. Although the weekend was a bit warmer than during the week, but nothing that really changed the tarmac temps.. The fastest lap i did in the start of the week where it was 10 degrees and full sun..
How heavy is your car with fuel? I guess you run 265 square?
I agree regarding the wear.. They seem to wear evenly, and at a very slow rate compared to the AR1 i drove before.  I have no experience with FZ201, since the max size is 265..

My buddy with his AMG GTs had almost 3 bar at the front at the beginning and the tire was still going well.
Seems that the CRs is not that sensitive when it comes to pressure.
We also had very cold weather in Padborg and even a hailstorm.

Yes, weather was shit that weekend.. I was making the van ready for the trip Monday, so i was working outside and every 30 minutes, rain o hail came by, and i had to go inside waiting for it to go away.. Luckily, i managed to do what i needed to do..
They dont seem to be no!
But my feelings was, that with the higher the pressure, specially above 2.3 bar, they moved a lot more on the tarmac.. With the 2.1bar on my car, they just bite into the ground, and had a very high slip angle.. to the degree on NOS i could floor the car on 1.9 bar pressure+keep the loudness pedal to the floor and control the powerslide by only a little countersteer with 3 porsches on my ass :4_joy:  Man that was fun! My passenger was pretty calm, normally he always sit in passenger and push you to drive faster and faster.. But at that exact moment, he went quiet for a brief minute, then it started again..

    totally agree!!!!

I thought you meant the NS with half round cool down. I came from the track with 2.6 bar, after 10 minutes 1.8 bar and cold :12_slight_smile:

No worries! It's crazy they drop so fast.. But what I then found good about them. The consistency.. At not one point, did i feel any performance drop beside when they got a bit cold.. Im looking forward to see how they perform in 20+ degrees weather with warm tarmac, then im sure they will be an even faster tire to drive.. But at the moment, AR1 still has better peak performance when its cold..
To be clear, im not saying the CR-S are slower and worse, but for colder temps, AR1 are faster atleast in my hands. .

    @VikingPower
Schuld ist die halbe cool down ( 10km ) ... Hatten wir in Padborg auch. CR-s kühlt unheimlich unheimlich schnell  runter. Wir haben uns da auch total gewundert.

Cool down on half a lap GP is around 2kms.. But yes, they cool down extremely fast.. Its funny, the pressure rises extremely high with only 20 degree differences.. I found on my car 1.9 bar cold and 2.1 bar hot was best.. 1.8 bar cold they where floaty as F.. and the same goes for 2.3-2.6 bar Hot. My car is very lightweight, so on your i would suspect 2.2-2.3 would be ideal. my theory goes 0.1bar less for each 100kg below 1500kgs and 2.3/2.4bar being the ideal for 1600kgs..

I have now ordered a set of CR-S and drove 12 laps on the weekend... so far they are doing quite well

What max temps did you see on them? I found it hard to go above 50degrees even after a few stints on GP track.. Measured directly after coming into parking lot, with half round cool down.

  21. After a week at the ring, im back home again.
I did the testing on the car, and out of the box, everything worked OK.
The corner weight + alignment was ofr my taste pretty spot on. The front damper setup was after consulting with a friend, adjusted 1 click on the rebound, and that made the difference needed for the front.
The rear end was a different story.. The rear springs seemed to be very uncontrollable.. Calling the manufactured didnt help at all, they said the spring rates was absolutely fine for the car.. So after that, i gave the keys to a few different people who knows how to drive.. I asked exactly what they felt was wrong with the car, before i said what issue i thought i had.. I thought it was doable to fix by damper adjustment, but hadnt got much luck with that by myself..
Long story short, the springrates where too high.. And the reason for that, is mainly that the hatchback doesnt have as much weight moving on the rear as the coupe..

I guess a few porsche drivers can confirm that, in Hazenbach where i went full sideways out of the last S corner trying to keep them behind on coldish tires.. Good times.. :4_joy:
After that, it was just a train.. I wanted to let them pass down the straight to flugplatz, but they didnt seem to take advantage of that, so we kept playing around the track for a full lap.. it was absolutely good fun.. At some areas they pushed me really good and at other areas i tended to get a way a bit.. This was one the best and hardest driving i feel ive done.. And yet, the car was just taking it all in, without to much drama. I wish i can find the porsche owner who was behind me, to see if he had any recording of me going sideways :8_laughing:

I went to the GP track too.. Here the stiff rear spring setup, worked better.. Just still a bit to bouncy/skipping rear tires in the corners, but it wasnt too bad though i didnt lose grip and could take the corner on the back straight with about 210km/h.. ca 10km/h faster than last year, even with a passenger..  Thats not too bad!
